MUSCULOSKELETAL CARE · INFORMED CHOICES
Questions about a care plan
Agree how the plan will be reviewed.
Start with your priorities.
Ask what the proposed goal is, why the approach is being recommended and how you and the practitioner would judge progress.
Ask about the practical details.
Clarify the proposed visits, total costs, home advice and the point at which another opinion or referral might be appropriate. Ask whether you can choose an alternative to a technique.
Keep the decision informed.
A care plan should leave room for questions and reassessment. Broad claims about treating unrelated conditions need evidence specific to those claims.
Take these questions with you.
- What would a suitable assessment involve?
- What benefits, risks and alternatives should I understand?
- What will the appointments and follow-up cost?
- How will we review the plan and decide next steps?
